Women Lighting the Way:
Discover "The Art of Wearing Many Hats"
with Angelique Peterson-Mayberry
A native Detroiter, born and raised in a place that she’s still proud to call home, Angelique was instilled the value of EVERYONE’S hard work at a very early age by her mom Sylvia. As a 3rd generation UAW Autoworker, spending
extensive time at union meetings, community marches and political rallies, provided an early experience that eventually laid the groundwork for her lifelong dedication to driving meaningful change. Breaking barriers early in her career, at the age of 25, Angelique became the youngest and the first African American and African American Woman to obtain the Trustee
position within her Local UAW, marking a historic milestone in labor leadership at Local 245.
Driven by a commitment to advancing progress, Mrs. Peterson-Mayberry has taken on influential roles with a constant focus on collaboration and transformation. As a former Employee Resource Coordinator; Community Relations Director; Women’s Committee Chairperson; and Diversity Facilitator Coordinator, she takes pride in her diverse journey, and values every lesson taught and mastered along the way.
Her current position as Global Diversity, Equity Inclusion Manager for Manufacturing Employees at Ford Motor Company and being former President of the Detroit Public Schools Community District School Board are evidence of Angelique’s deep commitment to guiding organizational initiatives that enhance a vibrant and inclusive workplace culture, and ensuring educational environments exist where students have access to the resources they need to succeed. Her leadership has been instrumental in shaping policies that intentionally promotes the advancement of public education for Detroit students, educators and families.
Beyond her official roles, Angelique is a steadfast advocate for those in vulnerable populations, and a champion for young people. Whether coaching future leaders, organizing community programs, or advocating for systemic change, she has consistently worked to empower those navigating difficult circumstances. Her dedication to addressing critical issues and creating opportunities for all, has earned her the respect of her peers and the community she serves. Angelique’s intentional approach of being a compassionate listener and a dependable supporter, leaves no doubt that she will continue to champion principles for a more united – respected – and valued community that is both seen and heard.
Honored and humbled to be a recipient of numerous awards, some that remain near to dear to her heart continue to be Michigan Chronicles’ Woman of Excellence, NAACP’s Great Expectations Award, Fellow Chapel’s Mother of the Year Award, African American Leadership in Education Award and United Way’s Woman of Influence AND their Volunteer of the Year Award.
In her downtime, Angelique spends time mentoring young girls on life-skills, serving in various ministries in her church home, creating unforgettable memories at family gatherings, or catching a good football or basketball game and despite a oftentimes hectic schedule Angelique is careful to prioritize time with her husband Chris, two young adult children Brooklyn and Jorden, and her “fur-baby” Stormy.
